Recording with Sonar LE, Windows 7, and C01U microphone

I wasn't too pleased to see the paper work referring to windows 98. The instructions say open tools>audio click on playback and recording tab, but it doesn't exist!The mic options seem to be left or right or stereo. I'm only getting very faint recording played back. I tried with audacity and got a lot of hiss. I discovered my roll wheel opens up inputs. Any help will be gratefully received.

THe problem is more fundamental. Even Windows sound recorder works with a load of hiss and weak sound. Ah the weak sound was coming from another mic but having made the USB mike default still no good.

I'm also using Audacity & Samson USB mic, in the past had some trouble receiving the input signal.. one thing that I remember is to restart Audacity each time you make an input change...

Other than that, when the mic is unpluged/re-connected, it appears in it's own
icon listing within sounds/recording (Win7)...

Just noticed Audacity comes up with mic volume off - never saw that before. So moving the slider up fixed that. Curiously windows recorder now works as well So now maybe I need to find the equivalent turn up vol in Sonar LE which is still not working - a little later; i was pressing the wrong button, so now all sorted.

Yes I have the icon for the mike in w7 and had clicked on it and made it default. It would be good to know if anyone else is using it with Windows 7. The version is: 8.5.1.17 and it comes under a cakewalk folder on the programs list.

BTW is there any point in using Sonar LE for a straightforward recording?
