Reasonably Polite Suggestions please

I thought I asked in the thread who wanted to join in, I thought you said you couldn't make it???

Oops! I missed the invite, but I couldn't make it anyways.

I might be able to do next as I shouldn't be overloaded until September.

Thinking the invitation was a little short on notice. Maybe try again for next week?
I see the Clock you added on. Very nice upgrade ! Thanks !
I’m guilty of not giving you an example. Was thinking of something like this that also included the day. Maybe without the clock faces. That takes up a lot of real estate on the page.

Oi!
European time?!

I did start off with something like that and yes it took up way too mauch space. As it is now it can fit on all (or most) pages.

I can look into also having the day, but didn't think it was an issue.
I know you put some work into this. Very much appreciated. As far as the day. 24:00 clock works. Just need some getting used day @ 00:01 to 23:59.
00:08 in Moscow…… it’s now Saturday there.

how about local time and weather

@Pete Thomas It greatly helps when members post their approximate geographic location with their avatar.

No suggestions, I just wanted to say thanks for the clocks, it was a good idea.
A date or day would be hard to add numeretically (???) due to the difference in formats, for example, 9/11 is the date of my wedding anniversary, the 9th of November, but in other countries it's a different date.
You could put TUES or just "T" I suppose, but I personally think that would be going a bit overboard.
The clocks are enough for me.

If you could put the day up along with the time I’d know if I was supposed to be somewhere else or not.

How about a sax porn section? Where members post pics and vids of their favourite brass/bronze squeeze(s).
I think that would work as a thread rather than a dedicated section. I get it but to be honest I'd prefer to called it your best saxophone images or something else rather then using the word porn.

I know it sounds absurd but thinking in regard to SEO, using the word porn in the title would possibly get penalties from Google believe it or not. Also would possibly trigger spam filters in thread notifications.

Also, you’re only an e away from big trouble with those two words

Maybe it is there, and I haven't found it, but I would love a filter or subcategories in the yard sale, so that you only see (for instance) mouthpieces or accessories or saxophones.
I've looked into this a bit. yes we could have extra categories but this is something I'm trying to avoid if possible. One of the reasons is that as reported in the forum vs social media thread, forums are losing members to social media due to in some cases to the moerw complex layout (forum categories etc).

The fewer forums and subbforums the less overwelming a forum can look to somebody who is only used to FB.

I know it is a double edged sword, it is the different forum categories that helps keep a forum more useful for archives and searching. But still I don't like to keep adding subforums. Maybe a one in one out policy could work.

What we know does work instead of more subforums (as you mention) is filters within a category. However the problem with that in the Yardsale is we already have filters for for sale, wanted, sold. It's not possible to have more than one prefix per listing (well, it is but requires a paid 3rd party addon) but I will definitely look into how we might implement this.

On that other sax forum there were some threads in a fun and games section that were called the Name Game, the Band & Group Game, and the Song Title Game. They were basically Trivial Pursuit type memory games and worked quite simply. The first person posted an answer to fit the category and each player after had to post theirs using the last letter of the previous post as the first letter of their post. So for example, in the Song and Tune Title Game the first player might post A Love Supreme and the next player would have to post a song beginning with S. The articles A and The didn't count, nor did the words Band, Group, Orchestra etc. There could be other categories of course, such as Show Tunes or Big Band Names, etc. Each game ran for hundreds of post until the mods ended them and restarted a new one.

As someone who played these games a lot I have to say that they are good for keeping your memory cells working because it's use them or lose them and since it's been a year and a half since I last played any of those my memory has gotten worse. Just a suggestion that perhaps some others would like to try. Nobody is forced to either read them or play them as they would be in the non-sax section of this forum.

I think this is a good idea. I wouldn't want to create a new subforum, but if you wanted to get the ball rolling and start one off to see how it goes, I would suggest using the Humpour subforum (we can rename it to Fun & Games or something).

I remember on SOTW a few people were complaining about the New Posts list getting overwhelmed by the games, so we may need to address that if it happens (although I think here we can have an ignore specific threads feature so maybe that won't become an issue)

Or could we have an "ignore subforum" feature ? Probably unnecessary unless we get overwhelmed with new game threads every day.

I may be missing something, but does it need to be proactive? My forum landing page is new posts, and I simply don't click any I'm not interested in. Easy.

From the first sentence shouldn't the next person start with E?

The 'Humpur subforum' looks like a reference to suggestion a few days ago of 'sax porn'.
