I'm going to try to answer suggestions. Please let me know if I forgot any!
I use a set of world clocks off my phone. Being a global form it’s nice to know what time it is somewhere else in the world. A little after 10 AM here in Los Angeles. It’s after 6 PM in London. Is it possible to install some clocks?
Done this now, is that what you meant?
Thanks to all, it now seems quite reasonable to ask for a Café Sax clock to which everyone could refer as the common time !
Not quite sure how that would work -- Café Time?
At work, we have institutionalized a weekly meeting. Friday at 4pm. That's an opportunity for us to share concerns, ideas, experiences, almost anything that's in our mind.
How about a similar thing in the café? A regular meet that members (only) could attend to share ideas, experience, tips or simply to socialize...
This is a good idea. (But nobody took me up on the invite to meeting on Thursday!)
I wonder if video is necessary? If not, there's always Clubhouse, audio-only but once created, a room can stay open over various time zones.
Not sure, I think I prefer video.
On some forums there's a zoomable map of members' locations so you know who's nearby. The member can opt to add themselves to the map if they wish to be "found".
We used to have one but I think there were technical issues and it didn't get used after initial adding of a few members.
Indeed we did have that. It was all a bit dependant on Google or something, and yes I think it kind of fizzled out. And didn't work on phones.
Maybe it is there, and I haven't found it, but I would love a filter or subcategories in the yard sale, so that you only see (for instance) mouthpieces or accessories or saxophones.
I am looking into this, but prefer to not have any more subforums. Prefixes might work but we'd need to rething as we use them now for FS or SOLD etc.
It may be my lack of understanding, but the "prefix" feature seems a bit half baked sometimes, in some places.
There's, sometimes for example, "Beginner" but no "intermediate" or "advanced". So does "beginner" mean "leave your gun at the door"? And even then "Begginer" in what? music playing in general? sax playing? improve...
On the other hand, it seems to work better in accessories...
So, I'd suggest making it's purpose and value clearer.
This is by design, it's hard to differentiate between intermediate advanced. The theory is that beginners are sometimes a bit overwhelmed and maybe feel scared to post , hence labelling yourself beginner can help make others aware so they won't (we hope) suddenly get too technical or advanced on you.
I do get the point though - we used to have a dedicated beginners subforum I think, then switched to the prefixes instead.
I could see a post tag system being useful if it was used consistently (and often they're not and become useless).
I stopped the tagging sustem a while back, have just reintroduced it and is avaialble again for new threads.
Any thread that's been inactive for some time (like 6 moths, a year...) is automatically locked against comments / reactions... But anyone can unlock them after being shown a warning that "this is an old thread".
And a popup saying "are you sure" would allow subjects which should be long-lived to be differentiated from 5 year old doorbell threads.
Looking into this, but the available addons to do it look a bit flaky so far.
