Hello,

Has anyone used a RAT Jazz stand? I'd be interested to here your thoughts on it if you have.

All the best,

Chris

Chap at our jazz workshop had one and it kept falling apart. I've no idea if it was the same make as this so that might be unfair, but the one he used did'nt last very long. It was mainly the 'feet' end that wouldn't stay in place.

Hi Phil,

Thanks, that's good to know. The angle adjustment on the head of my stand is beginning to require a fair amount of force to lock securely and so I’m beginning to look around for a possible replacement. I like the idea of the jazz stand but not the price and if it's not terribly reliable I think I'll pass.

All the best,

Chris

A trombonist in our big band got a Rat stand a while back and it seems really good and strong. He hasn't had any problems with it and it's really neat. I wouldn't rule the Rat out on the basis of one report that we have no idea whether it relates to this make of stand.

The price is too much for me and I like to play with a huge ring binder on the stand. When I tried that on the Rat stand, it seemed too heavy, but it was good for any normal amound of music and and reasonably-sized binder.

Thanks Rhys,

Good point, it's tentatively back on the list, although the list has only one on it at the moment so I'm not sure I can call it a list...

Looking at RAT's website I noticed this:
The Jazz stand is of excellent quality and construction. However, we will correct, free of charge, any defect in material or workmanship arising within 5 years of the date of purchase, subject to the following terms and conditions:

I'm not sure but I think RAT stands could be a UK company.

All the best,

Chris

a couple of players from bigband use these, when I first saw them I thought really need one of those, until you realize how big it is when folded/compressed.... went for the RAT aluminium lightweight jobbie, used with a plastic clip-on ledge works, lightweight & compact & with it's own bag.

cheers
Geoff
