This is a nickel plated tenor made at the beginning of the ’70 by Rampone & Cazzani FISM (Fabbrica Italiana Strumenti Musicali), the horn in question is the De Luxe model which, at the time, was one of their best horns, before they started producing the R1 and R1 Jazz.
True, Rampone didn’t have, at the time, the same cachet that it has now in the production of expensive and exclusive horns, but this model, the De Luxe, is still in production now (albeit with some refinements such as the addition of the high F# key, lacking on this horn for sale). The body tube and neck were of the same design then as they are now, so, this is a largebore saxophone with a deep and robust sound, some say, not unlike the vintage voice of American tenors such as Conn.
The mechanics are somewhat similar to a Selmer Balanced Action.
The horn still has most of the original pads with metal resonators (perhaps worth salvaging), so, although it does play, albeit with some steering, I would definitely recommend an overhaul to change all the pads, take out a little play, change felts and corks and generally regulate the horn. This will also give the chance to clean it in order to bring out the shine of the nickel plating (which shows only minimal pitting on a couple of keys and very little loss of plating on the octave activator).
It comes in a old case which can be sufficiently padded for shipping but since it has seen better days I would dispose of it and get this horn a new case.
I could have this overhauled for you prior to shipping ( I’d charge the cost 300€ for the overhaul in that case) but, I think, that it would be better for the new buyer to have it done himself.
I am asking 500 € for this horn (25€ to the charity) and would prefer , as always, personal collection and cash payment.
If you wish to have this shipped then you need to add another 100€ which covers shipping from the Netherlands, packing, insurance and paypal charges.
