This is a nickel plated tenor made at the beginning of the ’70 by Rampone & Cazzani FISM (Fabbrica Italiana Strumenti Musicali), the horn in question is the De Luxe model which, at the time, was one of their best horns, before they started producing the R1 and R1 Jazz.

True, Rampone didn’t have, at the time, the same cachet that it has now in the production of expensive and exclusive horns, but this model, the De Luxe, is still in production now (albeit with some refinements such as the addition of the high F# key, lacking on this horn for sale). The body tube and neck were of the same design then as they are now, so, this is a largebore saxophone with a deep and robust sound, some say, not unlike the vintage voice of American tenors such as Conn.

The mechanics are somewhat similar to a Selmer Balanced Action.

The horn still has most of the original pads with metal resonators (perhaps worth salvaging), so, although it does play, albeit with some steering, I would definitely recommend an overhaul to change all the pads, take out a little play, change felts and corks and generally regulate the horn. This will also give the chance to clean it in order to bring out the shine of the nickel plating (which shows only minimal pitting on a couple of keys and very little loss of plating on the octave activator).

It comes in a old case which can be sufficiently padded for shipping but since it has seen better days I would dispose of it and get this horn a new case.

I could have this overhauled for you prior to shipping ( I’d charge the cost 300€ for the overhaul in that case) but, I think, that it would be better for the new buyer to have it done himself.

I am asking 500 € for this horn (25€ to the charity) and would prefer , as always, personal collection and cash payment.

If you wish to have this shipped then you need to add another 100€ which covers shipping from the Netherlands, packing, insurance and paypal charges.

I am really surprised that this horn is still here.

At this price it should have been snatched ages ago especially by those who do the work themselves. What chances are there to buy a Rampone & Cazzani for this kind of money?

True, it is not a R1 Jazz or the “ Due Voci” owned by Pete and someone else’s here , but it is a true Rampone & Cazzani all the same.

Well, I am going on holiday for a couple of weeks so, if any of you would like to give it any thought I hope that someone here will take this opportunity soon.

We have postal services in the Netherlands. It all goes out by plane these days , we no longer use stage coaches!

I have sent a horn to London last monday morning, it arrived there Wednesday 12:00.

I have sold many saxophones (and other instruments) on Cafe Saxophone and they were all shipped from here with the exception of one Mark VI alto which the kind member came to pick up himself in Amsterdam. The same member had purchased another saxophone before which was set to him from the Netherlands.

It's a shame that people don't seem to be interested if the sax in question does not have a "name" (I use that term loosely as as R&C have produced some gems). There are many names often published on here that produced well made nice playing horns (I believe the term is pro-level, whatever that means) that can be had for less than £500, if more were prepared to try them they might be pleasantly surprised. Good luck with the sale.

I don’t ship via courier but via Post.nl (if I’d use UPS, DHL of FedEX the shipping charges would be considerably higher) and charge only 100€ for shipping, paypal fees and insurance.

If you prefer I could say that I am asking 600€ and pay al myself?

Regardless.

At a total 600€ this is and remains a bargain.

I reallyreallyreally would love to get My hands on This sax. And I have been trying to figure out how to come up With enough money to make the purchase, but Still haven't. I too think the price is quite valid. Aaargh.

Tanks! Unfortunately, the only help that I can offer is to wish you good luck with whatever you are doing to generate the funds to buy this incredibly conveniently priced saxophone .

Thanks for the wishes 🙂

I've grown a taste for personality on whatever Things I buy - and This includes saxophones. This instrument qualifies nicely 🙂

I don't seem to understand the PM system of this forum... oh, well 🙂

In case I get too enthusiastic with my interest on this sax, how do you act with payment and overhaul (Yes, I would prefer buying the sax overhauled)? Fully paid in advance?

Of course, as always, payment with paypal is upfront.

I can, of course, have this overhauled for you, at cost (will enclose the receipt), 300€, from my technician ( Tim Brennan in Haarlem, The Netherlands ) and I will ship it when the overhaul is ready, which might take some time even a month or more after you send me the funds. Depends on how busy the tech is.

So, it might be advisable to have someone overhaul it at you end, if technicians are available.

This would give you the chance to have the horn overhauled with the pads of your choice. My tech only uses Rigotti pads.

I always recommend having a saxophone checked after shipping because, even if someone is as careful as I am, there is not telling what shipping does to any saxophone, though carefully packed!

I have started a private conversation with you.
