Great Players R.I.P. Lou Donaldson

I just found out that he died age 98.
One of my favorite players. I have lots of his recordings and transcribed a lot of his solos.

He had a great innings....

I just started listening to him a few weeks ago (Natural Soul). Great player, RIP. What other albums would you recommend?

One of the pioneers of the "soul jazz" genre - if I remember correctly George Benson was a member of his band in the mid 1960s and Downbeat had an interview with Lou a few years back where he explained he took up the sax (he had previously played the clarinet) after been conscripted in the US Navy during WWII...RIP Lou...

Really great player, I've been getting into a lot of his music in recent times.

Blues Walk is a tune I feel like I've known forever though - does anyone recall that being used in film or TV at any point ?

Gravy Train I think is my current favourite album. Looking for the albums that featured a conga player was how I found a way in to navigating his back catalogue to start with, something about the vibe on those ones.

Listening to Lou's Here 'Tis for the first time this morning, I've been on a soul jazz (and Grant Green) kick lately and this fits the bill perfectly.
