Ligatures PPT Tenor - best ligature

Yet another good fit ligature (and inexpensive) for the PPT tenor is the Faxx Slim Baritone:

Flipped my Rovner EVO-5 E-2R around 180 degrees so that the bars were clamping the reed rather than the rubberised strap; with tremendous results (see my blog). So tremendous, in fact, that I'm going to switch from my metal Yani to the PPT 8*.

Still planning to get a Marc Jean lig as I think that an all-metal lig probably has non-damping advantages and will probably be easier to use as it should be a better natural fit. My limited experience with ligatures so far seems to suggest that the more solidly the reed is clamped to the piece, the better.

Well done!

That is the main way that I use my EVO-5 ligs on Alto & Tenor - very good improvement in the sound. I play the Marc Jean Lig on soprano and it is at a different level from all the others that I've tried.

Always nice to hear a happy story.
Kind regards
Tom

Hi Pete,
I have just measured my Rovner ""Eddie Daniels". Fitted in the mid position on the PPT, it gives a clearance of 3.6 mm at the front of the bars, with 5.0 mm of thread adjustment remaining. I very much doubt that any manufacturing errors would reduce these dims. sufficiently, so that it wouldn't fit

John.

Yes, I found the EDII lig provided a secure fit (and several 'options' to experiment with!) ...expensive, but I got it off eBay much more cheaply.

I found the Rovner types that I tried held the reed tightly near the neck, but too loosely near the tip. Best so far is a Marc Jean (or is it Jean Marc?) two screw that I bought from the yard sale. A touch expensive, but fits perfectly.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
