We have a slightly new design of the famous PPT Power baritone. The only difference is actually the length of the shank - we did this due to the fact that many people with vintage baris would like a slightly longer shank on mouthpieces as they are used to various other brand mouthpieces that need to be pulled off a bit to get in tune.
Although I believe this is not necessary on PPTs (which were designed using a Martin Committee and Conn 10M) it seems the stigma is still there so we bowed down to consumer pressure.
So we have the new Power HDXL (total length a respectable 150mm compared to the original length of a respectable 137mm)
My opinion is both are fine for vintage baritones where you want a more funky grunty grunt than you get with more traditional mouthpieces while also being very nicely in tune.
I am sending the original PowerHD out for a passaround, starting in the UK. If you like it you can choose to buy one of our remaining Power HD stock at a discount (I think there are only one or two left) or opt for the new HDXL. The only difference being that extra 13mm and a jaunty larger shank ring.
As mentioned I see no advantage in the extra length (ooh er matron, there I said it before anyone else got in there)

A few weeks back, Rhys came over with a clutch of mouthpieces, and we had an enjoyable evening performing some intonation tests on our 12Ms with my app.
I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn that I was completely blown away with the PPT mouthpieces. Fantastic modern volume and tone while still preserving that unique 12M resonance. The intonation was absolutely spot-on: better than any other mouthpieces we tried, for me at least.
