Hi Taz. She`s definitly a lovely piece. I love the finish . I don`t think the Gear4 Music model I was considering has a look in.>:)

re playability. how have you found moving to Bari v Tenor? I don`t mean the Bb/Eb transposition thing as I also play alto . I`m probably thinking more along a physical line. ie is it a heavy load, and how does she compare to your tenor across the register etc.

oops maybee the carrot is a Camberwell one? Ask Jonf

Two things let it down big time.... my photography and my playing! :))) Actually she had her first outing on Wednesday. I took her to my local jam and I had an absolute blast! The funny thing was, I played her most of the night but decided to play the tenor for the last couple of numbers. When I picked up the tenor I found it felt soooo small and thin! Whats more, I couldn't get a note out of it :))) It didn't take too long to reacquaint myself with her and I then realised how loose all the keys are. She rattles from almost every key!
The bari is a heavy beast and I'm desperate to get a new strap. I'm going for the Cebulla strap if three people from here order at the same time we get a discount.
Other than her weight, she plays effortlessly. I can probably play her faster than the tenor although I'm not a quick player anyway. My solo's tend to be a little ploddy.
Intonation isn't great but I've got a new mouthpiece in mind for that. When I played her at Paul's (and he played her too) the intonation was perfect, so I'm blaming the Mauriat stock piece! I'm also hoping that the new mouthpiece will help the bottom end. Again when I was at Paul's, the notes just fell out of her.
All in all I'm very pleased but I think she'll get better when the strap and the mouthpiece are added to the equation.

I wish to register a complaint.

If I'm caught looking at this thread, my wife will leave me.

Moderators - for the sake of my marriage, please delete the thread. I've had to clean the drool off the keyboard twice already.

And on a serious note, Paul can't have found a better home for his baby - hurt it may do, but look on it more that your daighter's found a good man, and he'll keep her happy! :welldone

Looks great.

As a suggestion, what about a PPT bari mouthpiece? I'm very happy with mine on my Selmer and it has displaced a load of good mouthpieces to become my number one (Theo Wanne, Morgan, Lawton, Pillinger, SR Tech, .... in rough historical order).

I'd get one but the engraving reminds me of the Signing on the Trotter van.

*This is a cunning plot to raise doubts in his mind and then it will be mine, all mine for a fiver. Zimmers off to the sound of evil laughter.*

It's not a carrot, it's a mouthpiece brush, to remind you to clean it. (It was all the talk of drool in this thread that made me think of it). That's a seriously beautiful thing you have, there. When do we get sound clips?

Cheers,

Martin

'tis indeed a thing of much beauty Taz.
I've checked my Mauriat alto and while there is much engraving of foliage and flowers, there are no vegetables.
The stock mpcs don't seem very good generally with Mauriats - it does say it comes with a "basic" one -. Mine was pretty awful to my ears, but I didn't intend to use it; it sounds very nice with my Jody Jazz Classic.

I wondered what it was that a bloke tried to sell me as I was stuck in a traffic jam in Camberwell yesterday (for purists it is actually Southwark now, Camberwell - place of OGs formative years incidently - having disappeared in local Government boundary changes about 40 years ago)!

The Jody DV's very good.>:)
Yep using a DV NY 7* on my tenor and love it. Only complaint is that the finish hs tarnished on the table, main mp looks lush thou after nearly 2 years use.

Taz

I've seen worse pics than yours, in fact I may have taken a few myself!

Well I've decided to go for one of Pete's PPT's. The only problem is I'm going to have to join the que. There's a bit of a waiting list, so I'll just have to put up with sounding a bit flat for a while longer. Come on Pete, can't you whittle any quicker? ;}:)))

Hi Taz,

She's a beaut, I am sure you will make sweet music together! There is something disturbingly erotic about the 3rd pic,m which I cant get out of my mind! We had a guy Terry turn up to practice with a Martin Bari, who sat next to me, you can FEEL the sound. I am definitely wanting one badly!

Classy bit of kit Pete - I look forward to seeing it in the metal sometime. From my limited experience of playing bari - pjonahs' - I reckon you should definitely think about a harness before you go for a conventional strap. I only did about 30 minutes in a recording studio but boy, was I glad to put the thing down. And that's in comparison to my Cannonball, which is a heavy old beast for a tenor. It's a lot of metal to hang off your neck for any length of time.
