Hi all,

Does anyone know what model of soprano Peter King is playing nowadays? I saw him about 5 years ago, but I can't remember what soprano he was playing. I know he plays a nice Yanagisawa alto.

I've seen him twice in the last couple of years and he didn't have a soprano with him even. He was given his alto by Yanagisawa, I believe, so perhaps they threw in a sop?

He certainly features in Yanagisawa advertising playing one of their straight sops with a curved neck.

Hi Robert
Its Yanagisawa. He was endorsing the Yani Sop when he was still using his Selmer Mk6 Alto.

FWIW I am aware that Pete King and several other musicians - called the Ronnie Scott All Stars, I believe - are currently doing performances of "Kind of Blue" in its 50th anniversary year (Pete is playing Alto Sax, and it is a sextet). They are appearing in Swansea in June, so may well pop along - at least to listen to the trumpet!

That's something to look out for, thanks!

Saw Peter King live on Saturday at the Wavendon Summer Jazz thingy in John Dankworth's garden.

Bloody marvelous. Considering he is just shy of 70 his speed, dexterity and control seem as good as ever they were. Is he our best alto saxophonist ever?

He plays a Yani but it's not a model I can find. It had a silver crook and bell with gold plated inner and what looked like a bronze body.
