Paul Desmond's solo on "Black orpheus" on baritone sax-transcription

Hello, I am transcribing like crazy during this difficult period...
After playing fast and complicated solos by Coltrane and Cannonball (solos that I played on baritone) I felt a need of simplicity.
So I have played this solo on "Black Orpheus" by Paul Desmond.
Desmond had a relax in his playing and a linearity in his phrasing that made him a "master of simplicity".
His lines sound great on baritone sax too!
Hope that you enjoy the video,
Bye, Fabrizio

Wot? No Gerry Mulligan or even a whiff of Harry Carney?
Hello Colin, did you mean why I didn't transcribe something from them?
I transcribed Mulligan (and Hodges) solo on "Bunny" and many many phrases, but not whole solos.
Lots of phrases by Carney too, but not a whole solo.
I will surely do it in the next future!

Excellent transcribing and playing. The tone of the bari blends beautifully with Desmond's "dry martini" sound. You are even matching his vibrato! I have always thought of Jerry Mulligan as the "Paul Desmond" of the baritone sax.

Thanks Jbtsax! I always spend a good amount of time listening and singing the solo before taking the saxophone. I discovered that in this way I impress deeply the solo in my mind, so when I take the sax I can transfer the solo on the instrument with more facility. Desmond and Mulligan had a similar approach, but their phrasing were different. Desmond was more linear, used less tensions and chromatic cells. Mulligan was more into bebop. They did a masterpiece together :the album "two of a mind", a masterpiece in my opinion. I want to transcribe something from that album too...

Two of a mind is my driving album. All the things you, are is the first track and sublime. Mulligans quartet with no guitar or piano is inspired. There's a nice album with Mulligan playing with the Dave Brubeck trio. Well worth a listen.
