Accessories Pad Saver/No Pad Saver Alto Sax

I don't think they're necessary or helpful. I leave one in my alto, but only because I don't have a neck plug for it. Tenor, sop, bari do fine without. Just use a pull through.

Solution looking for a problem as far as I'm concerned.

I repair saxophones and I have used the HW pad savers in my alto and tenor for many years. They do an excellent job. When I was a teacher, I required my sax students to get one since they never forget to clean their sax when they put it back in the case. For the neck I like to use a regular clarinet "hanky swab" to pull through a couple of times.

I knew you'd say something like this. 😉

I'm in the bunch that advocates not leaving anything sitting in the sax other than a body cap. Use anything that is soft to help get that moisture out of there, and let the chamois or pad saver air dry somewhere else. No moisture (zero wet stuff) in a closed case is a great concept. Also, consider propping the lid (for evaporation) of a saxophone case for a few hours to prevent trapping any leftover drips in the case.

When I practice at home I use the pull through cloth first, then shove the pad saver in and leave it for an hour or two in the horn inside the case, which I leave open, then I take the pad saver out and allow it to dry before I put it back in the horn and close the case. This really dries out the pads well.

When I play out (rehearsal or gig) I don't use the pull through. To save time and get on my way I just shove in the pad saver and go home. At home I will pull out the pad saver and use the pull through cloth if the horn is still wet.

The important thing is, if the horn is really wet, don't leave the pad saver in the horn with the case closed as the humidity will have nowhere to go really.
