Mouthpieces Otto Link's Metal "Vintage" Model (reviewed)

Sounds nice Ben. I preferred the Jody DVNY piece for your particular concept but there is definitely a void in the marketplace for a design like this.

I agree these could use a touch more baffle to get them really projecting. Nice effort though and the closest piece available to an original Tonemaster. Honestly, my biggest complaint was the size of the bore making the piece very tight on the neck.

Also, it seems many of the pieces coming out of the Babbitt factory lately have tips shaped to match reeds that were produced at the same time as the vintage pieces these were modeled after. No reeds are cut with this degree of curvature.

Thanks for the feedback, Matt. I enjoyed the DVNY much more, though its also not really in line with the tone I'm going for. Honestly, I haven't found anything better than my metal Florida Link. Anyhow, thanks again.

Would you mind commenting on the DVNY as it compares to your FLA Link? IIRC the DVNY review was specific to the info on Jody's site.

thanks!

Well the biggest difference, was the roundness of the DVNY tone. It had plenty of both vibrance and depth, which I highly value in a mouthpiece, but the overall format was a rounded sound. I prefer the more defined punch of my Link. That pretty much sums it up. If you have any specific questions I can try to be more help.

Would you say the DVNY is more diffuse while the Link more focused? Am I understanding you right? I have a lot of experience with Links but none with the Jody piece.

thanks for your time and insight.

The Link is a little more focused but thats not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the edge in the piece that gives it definition. The link has more edge while the DVNY has a warmer or rounder overall attack. Does that help?

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
