Saxophones Olds Super by Martin - Anyone played one?

I've got an Olds Super tenor. It arrived from Japan in a bit of a state and Griff refurbished it - I have some photos somewhere.

It's an unusual looking horn and plays well with a big and beefy sound, which is particularly strong up high. I'm not sure what model of Martin it was based on, maybe an early Committee from the war years.

That story about a wartime shipment sunk in the Med has all the hallmarks of an urban myth. I read it on SOTW and think it is nonsense.

PS The Olds Super was the model of tenor played by Judi Dench in the Alan Plater film 'Last of the Blonde Bombshells'. Look from 9:00 in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlV_N_CNvAQ

Never played one. But I think it's based on the Comm I or II models. The only Martin stencil I've seen with the Comm toneholes. Not bevelded.

Lovely movie - well worth a look. Alan Plater - who wrote it - was a mad jazz fan - and it shows here and in the Biederbecke series. All of those have some marvellous jazz as background music.
