...for my next trick
...a modern ballad for your delectation.
I am delighted to have been invited to host again so this months ballad is a tune the older members may well recall from their youth. Indeed it is possible they may have a wax cylinder roll or '78' in their collections.
'Just like a butterfly (that's caught in the rain)' written by Mort Dixon and Harry M Woods in 1927.
I have to give some credit (not a lot) to Sharkfin who mentioned it as a possible BOTM in a reply to the May 'Cry me a river' thread. Having heard Diana Krall performing it on her Glad Rag Doll album I agree with him that it is an interesting proposition and I hope you all enjoy giving it a go.
I have so far been unable to find any recordings of it performed on saxophone but I am sure they are out there somewhere. If not then now is your chance to make history. Meanwhile a few examples to whet your appetites.
