Having already enjoyed Jack Wyllie playing on the Portico Quartet (currently on tour) I will be seeing Louis Clavis and his Quintet at "The King's Place" in London tonight at 8pm (19th March 2010) and will report back.

How about we list any other gigs here when there are gigs featuring soprano saxes - be an interesting focus, and could include both upcoming details as well as reviews!;}
Andy Sheppard is performing at "The King's Place" tomorrow night, part of a series focussing on European Jazz.

Kind regards

Well, had a reaslly good evening at "The King's Place" last night! Excellent venue just around the corner from King's Cross station. The Quintet were made up of drums, bass guitar, semi-hollow electric guitar and two lead wind players - Louis Sclavis majored on bass clarinet, then clarinet and straight soprano, the other playing mainly alto sax and soprano sax.almost Jazz Rock at times, and virtuosity of the highest standard. I took a while to get in the groove, but it was fantastic when that had been achieved. Also bought their latest CD "Lost on the Way" much of which was featured in the gig.

So, highly recommended European Jazz!
Kind regards
