Whilst thinking what to use to make a new bite plate up with I noticed my Harry Hartman carbon fiber reed sitting on the desk with part of the tip missing (the same bit as I now have embedded in my lower lip) so after a bit od cutting and sanding I came up with this!

Looks good, but given the way the Hartman reed I had delaminated and sliced my lip open, I wouldn't trust it to not leave carbon fibre filaments in my mouth.

Incidentaly, whenever I need to replace a bite plate I put a dollop of JB Waterweld in. Makes the easiest replacement imaginable, and very durable. FDA certified as food safe as well, so you know it's non-toxic.

That is a very creative idea. I have in the past cut a bite plate out of the plastic top off of a can of spray paint. Whatever works.

Aren't you risking more permanently embedded shards of carbon fibre....John
