my reed cutting my lip.

i play a Jody jazz classic mouthpiece opining size 7. i recently bought a some new reeds. some of the reeds stick out over the side of the mouthpiece. when i play my sax the reed's vibration cuts my lips. can i trim the reed or will that kill the sound? or should i just wait till my lip either learns to get out of the way or gets more callus?

any help is greatly appreciated! ^_^

Sounds odd - mostly the reed makers are pretty good at cutting them to the right size!
Have you been sold some with the wrong packaging or something? If they're tenor reeds in an alto box, then that might cause you problems.
Think you need to change brand if not!

You could try gently scraping the offending edge with a sharp knife, just try a little at a time though.
