Saxophones MY NEW YTS-61

On the border
🙂I purchased a YTS-61 yesterday for $1200 CAD which is 649 GBP. The serial number is 009147. Maybe someone here can tell me how old it is. I checked Kijiji last week for tenor saxophones and I came across an ad for a YTS-61. At the time, I had been following thesaxman71's post about the silver-plated YTS-61 he was interested in buying.

The saxophone seller was located about five hours west of me in Red Deer, Alberta. I'm about an hour east of the Alberta border here in west-central Saskatchewan. The tenor had been listed for about three weeks and he had had only one nibble. A fellow came to look at it but didn'y buy it. The ad said it had been professionally maintained and had new pads and regular maintenance. The gentleman is 82 and had recently purchased a Selmer Paris model. He plays at retired homes only.

I asked him to hold it for me and that I would pay his asking price. Just in speaking with him, I had a good feeling about the sax. He gave off a really honest vibe. Yesterday, my wife and I made the ten hour return trip. Of course, I have to add $250 CAD for gasoline to the above purchase price so the overall price was $1450 or roughly 800 GBP. The horn sounds great to my ear. After seeing thesaxman71's post and the replies, I googled the YTS-61 and started reading about it. I resisted the temptation to post about it on thesaxman71's thread before buying it. I really had to bite my tongue, so to speak! I was afraid someone would read my post and buy it out from under me. Paranoid or what! But for that post, I probably would not have looked for one. And I see that Jamesmac also has a post on the YTS-61. Thanks to all the usual suspects for opening my eyes to this horn. 😉

Really pleased for you, hope you enjoy the 61, you can post us some tunes now 🙂

It's great when you can buy from someone you have a good feeling about, it gives you so much more confidence in the transaction

Enjoy

Jx

That's great zelda, I hope you enjoy playing it and as you pointed out plenty of good advice and knowledge on here about the 61. Sounds like a good deal to me. Happy honkin'

PS I complain about a 4 hour round trip to one of my 'local' sax dealers. Next time I'll remember your 10 hour trip and thank my stars🙂

It was because of the influence of some of the forum members that I bought a couple of Yamahas (YTS 62 and 875). They are fabulous horns although I use the 62 less and less as I move more into alto and sop.

Great advice on here. Enjoy your sax.

Thanks for the kind words all. Yes, there are some very knowledgeable and talented members here. I don't comment that often but I do read and listen to many of the posts. Oh, Sue, I hate driving! Everything is so far apart over here!

The big Difference is that over here , the whole UK is like New York at rush hour most of the time, distance isn`t very far but the time per mile can be a nightmare . that 10Hr round trip across the states was probably spent actually driving rather than sitting in a traffic jam in the rain

If you have ever been in New York in rush hour you will know that quote is over the top! UK is OK dependant on time and day. Same as anywhere but a whole lot better than NY in rush hour.

It made a point .... a lot of Americans laugh at the short distances we travel over here and how we moan about it but don`t take the traffic into consideration .......

Me too. I drove for 2 hours to collect my alto, had a lovely coffee and chat with the seller. Then on the way back the snow came down, the windscreen and wipers iced up and I ran out of windscreen wash. Weather caused a huge jam on the autobahn, so I went cross country as soon as I could turn off.. Took nearly 4 hours to get back. But it was worth it. Hope it turns out the same for you.

I took a 4 hour train journey each way (3 trains each way, all on time!) to buy my BW tenor.
There must be something about good instruments and our willingness (madness?) to travel for them!

We call them 'provinces' - not 'states' in Canada but yes, it was wide-open spaces, good highways and very little traffic. The only trees for the most part are those planted by farmers around their farmhouses. However, when I got to Red Deer, a city of 100,000, I may as well have been in NYC even though it was on a Sunday. The reason: Sunday shopping. In the larger centres in Canada, the big box stores, Walmart, etc., and shopping malls are open seven days a week.

TOP 10 REASONS TO LIVE IN SASKATCHEWAN…
1. You never run out of wheat.
2.There are no curves or hills on the highway.
3. Cruise control takes on a whole new meaning.
4. Your province is really easy to draw.
5. You never have to worry about roll-back if you have a standard stick shift.(manual to the Brits)
6. It takes you two weeks to walk to your neighbour’s house.
7. YOUR Roughriders survived. (Sask Football Team)
8. You can watch the dog run away from home for hours.
9. People will assume you live on a farm.
10. Buying a huge John Deere mower makes sense.

You've pretty much covered it, Plod. And cruise control is definitely a necessity for driving out here.

650 quid - epic bargain on a Mk6 beating horn, It really don't get any better! (IMO)

It doesn`t "beat" a Mk6 any more than a Yamaha FZR1100 "beats" a Suzuki Intruder

they`re different saxes for different sound , in fact a MK6 and a 61 would make a good pairing for their difference

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
