So, elsewhere I posted I have just bought a Sennheiser 980 bew clip on mic. I cant make it work. I has two little red adjusters, for what I dont know, but they are clearly not meant to be fiddled with on a regular basis as they are slightly recessed and you would have to use a point or something to turn them. But, the thing doesnt work at all. I have put an old dynamic mic through a Boss 900cd digital recorder and it works, nothing from the clip on. The thing with the little red adjusters is called a phantom power adaptor and I was told it supplied phantom power. Could this be wrong? I can supply phantom power from the Boss 900, when I can remember how, but does anyone know about these things? I bought it because it didnt need external power. The guy in the shop is a good bloke but I cant get back there till tomorrow evening, so any knowledge shared, appreciated, as always.
Best wishes
Mike

Hi Mike,

Do you mean a Sennheiser 908?

If so, do you have the "Intelligent MZA 900 P in-line-preamp (cable, phantom power & level check)"? I think you'll need this to power the Mic and presumably this needs a battery. I could be wrong but I don't think it's designed to take phantom power from a desk, instead you use their power adapter or their wireless transmitter which also provides the power. This is hopefully clear in the instructions that came with it, I'm basing the above on a quick look on the web.

Yep, it is the 908 and it does have an in line MZA 900P and nowhere in the book does it say anything about it needing batteries or what those little red toggles are. I will check it out when I get home. Instinct told me it was crying out to be switched on but there is not switch and I did not think of batteries. I guess it will be a single 4A. Many thanks, I will let you know how it works out.

Cheers all. That´s nailed it. It needs power. I can do that but its not what I thought it was.
Many thanks

Hi Mike,
Assuming that you are not wireless, another worthwhile purchase is the inline volume control from "Blows Me Away". A wonderful piece of kit, small and clipped to the strap, easy to adjust volume. Set it up with a small amount of volume at the strap control, and the correct level at the mixer/amp. Then as the volume from the other guys increases, you can turn up your strap control!!!
I assume you are attending your local "jam" sessions, and now that our stage production season is coming to an end, I would like to come up and sit in sometime.
Must contact Rogerb, and arrange a meet as well!!!!!!!!!

Hi John. That sounds like a good idea, and I will see what I can get. I like to shop ont internet but when I want something I usually want it now and that means Denia music. The jam session didnt happen, the bar shut down. Though there are others I am practicing with a bunch of old geezers on Tuesdays towards a gig in April at some golf club, dont know which one. Going quite well, but I have to get more imaginative. That may come as I get less nervous. I will do some jams when I am settled in, had no idea how nervous I would be, and it would great fun to go with you. TWO saxes should really blow em away. Hope alls well with you
Best wishes

Hi Mike, The guy at "Blows Me Away" is really on the ball and it would be only a few days arriving! However, I do have a spare one that you can use for your gig. If you are rehearsing next Tuesday I can bring it (and my sax) up to you ;} It does require an XLR connection though.
What date is the gig, 'cos I'm going back to the U.K. for my son's wedding at the end of April.
Since retiring 11 years ago, it's been non stop fun :thumb: - However did I find time to go to work!!!!!!!!
