I am looking for a mouthpiece that will give me that open, loud, jazz sound without too much edge and I am pretty much dissatisfied with what I've tried so far.
I like the sound/tone that Archie Shepp, Arnett Cobb, Ben Webster and other have. So far, I've tried Otto Link, Dukoffs, Vandorens, etc. the usual modern stuff out now and either the tone is too mellow, too bright, and too shrill.
I may be thinking that maybe the vintage horns would produce that sound with the right mouthpiece but I'm using a Jupiter 700 series now, that I've grown accustomed to.
Any suggestions would help, and if someone can direct me to some soundclips that Pete Thomas has using his PPT mouthpiece, that would help me also.
