Mouthpieces Mouthpiece choice

Hi,
I bought a Yamaha Sax with a Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. Why is there lots of choice. Is it based on level of experience of music genres ?
If based on experience what would be the right choice for a beginner?
Thanks

I regularly hear the yam 4c is -the- mouthpiece to have as a beginner 🙂

The mouthpiece usually makes more difference to your sound than anything else. Others here will give you a better answer, I'm still a beginner myself 🙂

Why is there lots of choice?

Mouthpiece and you are the main contributors to the sound, much less so the sax. So guys swap mouthpieces to get different sounds. Also different mouthpieces give more or less resistance to your blowing. Some people prefer free blowing ones, others need resistance.

Then there's the ease of playing. Takes a while to learn to control a mouthpiece. More radical ones are a lot harder. So you get going on a good starter (like the 4C), learn to control that, then try others. Stick with the 4C for at least a year, unless your teacher suggests changing earlier.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
