Inspired by the recent thread posted by @ESJohn on a really unusual place for his band to rehearse, I wondered what quirky, daft, unexpected locations people have played in. That might be playing outdoors on your own, or your band being booked to perform in a bizarre location.

Photographic or video evidence would be good.

Here is short video clip I took from the stage when our function band was playing inside a hangar at the Army Flying Museum at Middle Wallop back in 2016.

In the café.
Nothing really unusual, unless you include practicing in a remote area of a large park (2100 acres/850 hectares). It really does make a difference in the sound!

I'd like to view that video but it's marked "Private".

I like the sound of that large park - any pictures ?

Don't know why the video should say "Private" - here's a photograph of the band area before we started playing:

Latin band gig in a motorcycle dealership specialising in fancy Italian bikes - Moto guzzi, MV agusta etc...the gig didnt pay enough to take one of these home unfortunately.

Back in 2017 the former piano player from our big band was on the TV show "Come Dine with Me". She asked me to put together a music group to hide in her double garage and then be revealed to entertain her guests. That was a weird experience:

Not everyone in the group seemed to understand my instructions about the dress code.

Yes, Culham. 1982, I think. Couple of friends worked there and played viola and piano, so we did a lunchtime gig and they took me on a tour.

Cool. I visited there around then from university, again in 1985 when I worked for the UK Atomic Energy Authority and then again about ten years ago as a member of an engineering group. It's a fascinating place and now one of my daughter's university friends works there.

It used to be said that the hottest and coldest places in the universe were both near Oxford, with the inside of JET when it is running being the hottest. I think it isn't quite true, but makes for an interesting story.
