Monthly Sax Log

You have star quality, you play like a pop star, you look like a pop star, you are going to be a pop star.... :w00t: When you first started we all had our doubts, but you are starting to sound really good. We love you, the audience love you, and its their votes that count....:welldone:welldone:welldone. I'd like to see you in the final.........:thumb:

Really good stuff - quantum leaps is the phrase.....next it will be quantum mouthpieces!

That was great and you get on well with Legere reeds. The tune was nicely arranged as well. Is it in a play along book?

Jim.

Hi Jim, I actually got it off pro custom tracks, it's an arrangement by Jimmy Sommers. Would like to add that their sheet music isn't always 100% correct - had some sharps missing in my sheet music - and some pieces just don't translate well for Eb alto sax e.g. Walter Beasley's Killing Me Softly, is really, really difficult to play, with alot of of errors.

Heh thanks Tom. Pretty happy with my V5 A27 at the moment. I was thinking about getting a V5 A35, but I don't think I can put in enough time like the big cats to control the wider pieces, so I'm sticking with the A27 for now 🙂

Hi rudjari! Thanks for the suggestion - if you have a moment could you provide me with some timings where you feel where the notes could be played longer? I think there are some towards the end that could possibly sound better if played longer as well. This was my 2nd take, didn't want my neighbours to kill me 😀

Thanks!

Hi Gallen. Yes, I was thinking of the second part, after the guitar solo. It sounds a little 'staccato' to me (and mind you, it might be just me). Maybe if you tried playing that part a bit more 'tenuto'.

I understand the incidences loud music might cause to neighbourly relations. In that respect I'm a lucky bastard. No neighbours in close proximity.🙂

I'm not overly fussy about what I'm being called. Got a missus that's very inventive in that respect. Though, it's rudjarl with an 'ell' et the end. :mrcool

So, food somehow takes time to cook, and I picked up my sax to try the section out - checked "tenuto" on google, which is the horizontal slash mark above the note. I coulda sworn my teacher told me it was "play it between a regular note and an accented i.e. > note - basically a legato accent".

In any case I tried to play the section a bit more legato (only 3 times though) and I think the way I played legato didn't work very well on this section - I think it can, if I didn't follow the note durations that exactly. Will give it another go tomorrow when I have proper practice time allocated 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to point out this section, always good to question 🙂
