How can I convert midi files to mp3? I've done it before but can't remember how I did it.

Tried Audacity; I can import midi, but i can't seem to export the file to mp3. Or I can, but there's nothing there...

I just tried it with my copy of Audacity, and despite being able to import the midi it wouldn't play - and neither would it export.

If you can get the midi to play, you can use Audacity to record it via the 'what you hear' or 'wav out' input.

Try googling for "Freeware midi to MP3" - lots out there.

I do this with Quicktime, which will play the MIDI. Not sure if you need to splash out the $35 for the pro key in order to export to mp3 though.
Yes, think I do. Just found a freeware that I'm trying out. Will post the details if it does the job.

I've been using a program called "Switch sound file converter", very easy to use and has a free trial period too.

If you've got a Mac. in garageband create a new project drag and drop the midi to the start. select all and export to disc from the share menu. Which will save in mp3 format and mac formats.
