Low C# Key not rising

Hey all,

My low C# key isn't rising when I press the button in the little finger stack. All the other parts leading to the pad itself are moving fine, but for some reason it just won't move of its own accord.

Any idea?

Thanks!

There are basically two types of springs that can open the low C# key when the C# lever is pressed. One is a needle spring that comes out of one of the C# key posts. The other is a flat spring on the underside of the bar that closes the low C#. I believe that the Selmer Balanced Actions had this second type of mechanism. I know my SBA alto from 1950 is set up that way.

It could be the flat spring is either broken or has come off. This is a relatively easy fix for a repair tech in a well stocked shop. Good luck with getting it fixed.

It may be stuck down - try lifting it by hand. If it works once it has been freed then just give the pad a clean so it doesn't stick so easily. If it doesn't work after that then the spring has come dislodged or snapped.
