Hey All,

I recorded this recently.. I got the backing of the guitarist you hear playing a long the melody.. but when I left out the guitar it didnt sound as good as I'd wanted so I put the guitar back in. I also put in 3 alto tracks.. 1 main voice, 2 main voice 8va, 3 second (chord) voice.

It's one of those tunes you think will it work on saxophone - and I previously thought - no way Jose'

Not a bad effort - have a squizz at this...

Enjoy...

aah now I know why I had a hard time putting it together without guitar.. I was missing the sub-contra-bass Sax (?) lol cool take.

Good effort, good luck with the finals 🙂

I like what you're doing, but (and this is obviously just my opinion) dont like the guitar tone at all. I'd like to hear it with way less gain, as I found it was getting in the way of the sax.

I understand.. but I couldnt get a good flow in the song without the guitar in the back, probably a time and effort matter, but to me it sounded better as a whole with the guitar in the backing.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great bit of work, and I really applaud you for doing it! Listening again, I think it's the tone of the guitar rather than the fact that there is a guitar. It's a bit too similar to the sax in places and so they get mixed together.

I really like it at ~2:50 onwards, when the sax really shines 🙂

yeah this is actually somewhat the same part as in the beginning.. the verse I guess.. only I solo over it while the guitar continues the same, and where the guitar normally makes a solo I only used the backing to make the improv solo grow a bit more and to get a nice ending.

thanks for having a listen! and for the feedback ofcourse, greatly appreciated.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
