I am working my way through James Rae's exercises for Sax. Some of them have the marking 'lip' with a little curve sign. What does this mean and how do you do it?
I would imagine that you are required to loosen your embouchure to start a note at a slightly lower pitch, before tightening to raise the pitch to normal (bit like a wah wah pedal- I can't recall the other name for it just as I write.
That wouldn't be the 'schlurp schlurp' or 'schlurf schlurf' piece would it?
That was always one of my favorites in the 24 modern studies for saxophone I think it was called. Along with the rock n roll number just after it.
