Ligatures Ligature News: New One Screw Selmer Ligature........

I've just ordered one of the new Selmer One Screw Ligatures for Alto HR mouthpieces... Has anyone tried one yet? I'd be interested to hear what you thought. In the meantime I will write a brief review when mine has come and I've tried it for a few days.

I wonder if it would be a good fit for a PPT8 mouthpiece. I am going to be in UK for Xmas and January, and will pick up a PPT8 I got my sister to order, so thinking of gettinmg a ligature to fit while I am there.

The Selmer ligs are £20 - available at several places, including sax.co.uk, Dawkes & Howarth. Apparently Rovner are developing a larger ligature especially for Nick Wyver, (The Eddie Stobart XLV) which will be able to hold a La Voz reed pack right across his lower face....................

The new ligature arrived today, and initial impressions are very good - it has a lively and responsive sound and is so much easier to apply than the old 2 screw version, though I also like that very much. I bought the alto ebonite version and it is a very comfortable fit, and it projects more than the other ligatures I use (Francois Louis Basic, Rico H, Rovner EVO-5). It sounds very different to the FL Basic and does not quite have quite the tonal range, but I like it a lot!

Surely there must be other threads that you could use your pragmatic negativity on - shall I present one about the relative benefits of soaking reeds in malt whisky, as distinct from blended versions (I swear by Lagavullin myself and its implicit iodine edge........);}

I see you prefer the darker sound given by peaty liquor. I'll stick with the clear brightness of Russian vodka.

Having installed a new miniature lathe, test were carried out until competence was reached in thread cutting. Ligature screws were an obvious starting point.

I can hear a distinct and measurable change between metric, Whitworth, BSF and BA threads as well as a very notable change according to the metal and the finish used.

These premium, patented audio screws will be on sale soon but only to exotic saxophone fanciers.
