Hello

I have in the past been a tenor person, but during the last year due to a finger problem playing tenor has been a bit of a trial. I have been lucky enough to find a superb vintage alto which has been very well maintained. Not having many alto mouthpieces (2) I tried them both and a Goldbeck Superb which I bought a few years ago (can't remember why, I think it was because it was modelled on the Master Link) has turned out to be a perfect match, trouble is I've had to make my own ligature using an old Rico and some soldered bars, not an ideal arrangement.

I guess it takes something similar to a Lawton slide on ligature but I am now rather remote from any of the larger woodwind emporiums so I know it's a long shot but if anyone would know of something which might fit I would be very grateful. The measurement across the lig slot is 17mm.

Ok- after a bit of testing I conclude- Goldbecks are a bit of a non-standard size. The closest thing is a Metal Otto Link, though your 'piece is very slightly chunkier. I'm reasonably confident that a leather lig (Rovner or BG) designed for a Link would work ok. The same goes for Francois Louis Ultimates designed STMs should be ok.
Lawton "track ligs" are so precision cut for Lawton mouthpieces I'd be very surprised if one would work without modification....

Thanks for your help, I do prefer metal ligs, I've looked at the FL's and I think one of those would probably be the nearest without too much modification, if at all. It's the upper shoulder of the original ligature slot that might foul the pipes if anything. I havn't got a local saxophone shop but have an outing next week-end will try and fit in a visit to the nearest stockist.

Once again thanks for the kind help and advice.
