I am lucky enough to have the 1st batch of the New LAW ALTO mouthpiece's Lawrie Waldron has been working on for some time.There is 3 model's up to now which match along side the 3 Tenor model's.They come in a Bullet chamber piece,a rollover baffle large chamber piece,and a high baffle piece.Tip,rail's and table are perfect and they are solid mouthpiece's with some weight.As with all LAW'S i have tryed and own they are very free blowing and have lot's of projection and juice.You can see these were made with passion and these are bespoke tailormade work's of art.All 3 Alto model's i am trying are a size 6*(80) and all blow very easy.My thought's on sound,response etc are.
1. MCB 6* Medium chamber bright Alto; This baby sing's,would make a fantastic lead alto mp.Very sweet sounding,remind's me of Cannonball Adderley sound.Altissimo is superb,can rock the house if need be and can be very modern when pushed.It is very rich in overtone's,clear,load's of presence.A great all rounder.This piece would please a wide choice of player as it's so versitile and so easy on your chop's and very good fun to play.Projection is great and will cut through many a loud Guitar player.

2.LCD 6* Large chamer dark Alto; This piece has a big open chamber with long concaved wall's and a slight rollover baffle that remind's me of that Meyer sound scape.For a metal alto mp this gem has so much warmth and depth.If your wanting that 1950's Jazz sound this i the 1 and i can see lot's of people loving this for it's dark,sexy tone's.People who only like Hard Rubber mp's should check this out as it's so full and again projection is fantastic with a .touch of edge if needed.Many metal Alto mp's are harsh but i found this so nice for that yesteryear Paul Desmond type sound and enjoyed it alot.Again it's range is great,big fat bottom and again you can get right up there with know prob's.

3.A D BUZZER 6* Alto.This is a high baffle piece,1 step baffle going into a largish chamber,concaved wall's that's the best funk mp i,ve ever tryed.You would think by just looking at the baffle as with the Tenor Buzzer that it would be shrill,scary bright as say a Dukoff but how wrong you will be.A great focused fat sounding tone with load's of pop in the note's.Middle D,E.F,F$ sound the best i,ve heard and this piece on alto is outstanding for my need's and what i hear in my head when i search for an alto sound.Palm key's have a nice rounded sound and altissimo to die for.This piece remind's of a Candy Dulfer,Dave Sanborn kind of sound but more Candy's tone which i find warmer.Maceo Parker and you get my drift,i hope.I have been waiting awhile for the LAW Alto mp's to come about and it was worth the wait.I liked all 3 model's and that's why i own the 3 Tenor model's as they are all fantastic and suit me for all the style's i play.The alto Buzzer is a cracking piece and i've ordered mine.

Nice work Dave. They look beautifully made as I would expect from Lawrie. Have you decided what you are going to keep ?

Did they come with a smaller version of the LAW lig or were you using something else ?

It looks like the window and side rails are a slightly different design to the LAW tenor pieces. I just traded for a Gerber alto Custom piece and that one has a design that looks like a smaller Buzzer style. It's a very good modern piece, but lacking a bit of "body" in the sound sompared to my favourite Lawton ICON.

Do you know what Lawrie is intending to do about making these alto pieces - is his waiting for feedback from you and Steve Neff ?

Hi, i want a Buzzer piece but larger size.There was no ligature so just used a standard Soprano lig that worked great on them.As normal there made to perfection and all great at there own thing.Lawrie is back logged with his fishing stuff so he is working alot.The piece's are going straight to Steve Neff now so he can review them and put some sound bite's up on his site.The MCB Alto piece sing's,oh yes.Look's like a Berg Bullet but so,so much more flexible and could settle on 1 of them with no prob's.I tried to explain my thought's and finding's as from what i heard and felt when playing them and hope it worked out clear and to the point.I think you would like MCB alto piece from what you have told me about your like's in sound.Cheer,s DAVE;}

Hi, Versitile and ease of playing are the key word's.There's not 1 thing i can moan about as each piece is the biss in it's own right and a pleasure to play.We all know that Alto sax and metal mp's dont allway's work hand in hand but these 3 match 100% and not harsh,bright etc.Great work.:welldone
