Larry Stabbins

Jules

Formerly known as "nachoman"
I discovered Larry Stabbins a year or so back playing with Jerry Dammers' Sun Ra tribute orchestra- he totally blew me away with his power and lyricism (and incredible control of altissimo screaming- something close to my heart!). Subsequently picked up his album 'Stonephace'- with various members of Portishead.... So, meet the West Country Pharoah Sanders- http://www.myspace.com/larrystabbins

Blimey, is he still around then?

Still as noisy as ever I see.

Can't remember when I first came across him. He was certainly in Keith Tippett's big orchestra that did Septober Energy in the early seventies.

Yes, he's a great player from way back, I particularly remember him from Working Week I think they were called, but he was of course around before that.

The front line of Horns with the spatial AKA orchestra are really quite something- Dennis Battiste on tenor, Larry Stabbins- also tenor, Jason Yarde on Soprano (particualrly elegant), Nathaniel Phacey from Empirical on alto and Terry Edwards of Gallon Drunk on Baritone.....

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
