Clarinet Kicking myself

I missed out on an apparent bargain on eBay last night. There was a Jupiter 931S clarinet on sale for $62 "in excellent playing condition". I wasn't familiar with the model, but did a little online research and learned that it was Jupiter's top model.

Just as I was about to click on "Buy it now", the advert disappeared. It soon reappeared with the price of $629. I really shouldn't have hesitated initially!

I guess the seller would have pulled out saying the price was an error, or some similar slimey way to wriggle out of it. Maybe it was a genuine error, who knows? Don't kick yourself too hard...

As a bonding exercise, may the rest of the Forum come and kick you too, please?

Is this your morning routine?

Stretch

Off with the jim jams, on with the Doc Martins

Pop to the corner shop for the paper and see if you can find a scrote on the way to kick for ten minutes before breakfast?

Obviously not a gentleman.

The butler brings my freshly ironed newspaper as I avoid contact with common tradesmen.

One may only kick oiks and the lower orders during the London Coming Out season and solely for the amusement of the debutantes.

I think it was a genuine error. It was being sold by a pawn shop, so I wouldn't have felt too bad about snapping it up at the mistaken price. If they could have pulled the plug on the basis that the original silly price was in error, I can at least tell myself that I wouldn't have been able to get it anyway.

I really do hanker after a clarinet, but can't afford one that will be worth playing. I'll just have to keep my eyes open... 🙂

Me too, I've been toying with the idea of getting one from SMS (who I got my Jericho saxes from). I think its called the Phoenix, and it seems ok for the money (reviewed on Stephen Howard's site). As with the saxes, I don't want to spend proper money until I know I will carry on with it.

Give Alex at clarinetsdirect.biz a call . He usually has a good 2nd hand selection. I have bought and sold with him in the past. Good honest guy. Also a pro Clarinetist.

There are quite a few used Hansons about (equiv to the HE-3V) for around the £75-£100 mark which personally I`d buy long before an SMS or other chinese horn for the upgrade path, free spares and their servicing if nothing else, they`re highly thought of too.. make sure it`s a 100% Hanson though and not one they did for Arbiter etc which are only part Hanson but have Pro-sound by Hanson on (I investigated this and spoke to Alastair) . There are also tons of servicable Buffet B12s about though also equally as many in varying states of disrepair.

I just got a bargain, Buffet B12 from ebay for £60. 🙂
there are also a few great looking yamaha and B12 there for a good price too if you are still looking.

Yep, I picked up a Hanson for a good price, it`s off to it`s maker for a CLA . Cash converters and Cash Generator a mine of B12s and YCL26s,:thumb: they`re a great way to explore the "Misery Stick" (I love that expression)

I have a Phoenix and have written a review on here. I sold a Penzel Mueller artist clarinet as I preferred the sound of the Phoenix! I can highly recommend a Phoenix clarinet and for the price of £139 you won't be disappointed trust me 🙂

I still have my Boosey & Hawkes Edgware that was the first new Clarinet I owned. The thing is it still plays great and sounds great. A year or two back I treated myself to a Selmer St Louis because I wanted a quality all wood clarinet but the truth is the difference in price if far greater than the difference in quality. The older Boosey & Hawkes instruments were fantastic and are good value now.

On another note I have just seen a few
VINTAGE BOOSEY & HAWKES EDGWARE Bb WOOD CLARINET COMPLETE W/ MOUTHPIECE & CASE
on E-Bay, I don't know how I should feel VINTAGE!!!! :w00t: I'm not that old.
