Hello!

I impulse bought a used tenor sax a month or so ago. Terrible decision as it's nearly as tall as me!

I'm now in possession of a new alto one and am starting to teach myself .

My neighbours love me;)

Wonderful, you realized your error and corrected it. Alto is the best! Welcome!

Welcome to the Café.
The neighbours will come to appreciate and love your liquid tones.
(But tenor is best really.)

Welcome to the forum.

Alto players choose their instrument....whereas Tenor players are chosen...
(I don't mean that, play whatever you wish in good health) ;)

What 'teach-yourself' materials/resources are you using ?
I've got Saxophone for Dummies plus got a bunch of piano, uke, guitar music to practice with. I already read music so I don't have that hurdle.

My plan is to learn the basics and then get a tutor- they're a bit thin on the ground by me though!

So far I can handle a c major scale, started using the octave key and introduced a couple of flats and sharps.

I am sure I will return to the tenor at some point but I really struggled!

Welcome to the café Juju!

You still have time (about a year) to be ready to cheers up the America's cup flying boats next year using your enhanced Putatara. In Tahiti where I lived as a teen, we called it a pooh! Because of the sound it makes. :w00t:

Hang on to the tenor. It's a great beast, but a worthy one to tame!

If the tenor sax is nearly as tall as you, I deduce you must come from Matamata and be either a hobbit or a jockey...

I prefer the alto over the tenor, to me the alto has a certain cry or wail in its voice the tenor or soprano do not have...although I'm slowly liking the tenor, I may love it in 30 years time...

Don't worry about the neighbours tell them it was toss up between the drums or the saxophone and you decided to go with the sax...:thumb:

Happy saxophoning in Aotearoa...
