Hello. I was wondering if anyone out there has played on a Kessler Custom New York Short Shank alto mouthpiece. It is supposed to play just like, if not better, than the vintage Meyer Brothers mouthpiece. They are all custom hand-made using the same baffle, tip opening, and medium chamber as the vintage Meyer. So i just want to know some opnions on the Kessler compared to the vintage meyer piece. I currently play on a modern Meyer 7. I love the dark warm tone on alto like Parker and Stitt. heres a link to the Kessler: http://www.kesslermusic.com/KesslerCustomSax/NewYorkSSMouthpiece.htm

Thanks for the help! 🙂

Hi There!

The mouthpiece in question is not available in UK/Europe so you may be dependent or a US/Canada member answering your call. If you want to play what Parker did then get a Runyon 22, which is amazingly cheap. Lots of folks also produce vintage Meyer copies - Phil-Tone, Peter Ponzol and several others, all of excellent quality.

Hope this helps - SOTW may be worth a perusal.
Kind regards
Tom

Also do look into both Ponzol Vintage and Morgan Vintage mouthpieces, both of which are hand made and excellent value. The Ponzol is a direct copy of an original Meyer, and the 85 produces an amazing vintage sound. If Charlie Parker had done less drugs he would probably be playing one of these in his later years.........

Kind regards
Tom

Both the above mouthpieces are available at www.junkdude.com for between $115 - 119, which is some $30 cheaper than the Kessler mouthpiece. Dave, at Junkdude also has a number of used mouthpieces which will be even cheaper!
