Mouthpieces Just ordered a Dukoff H7

I was asked what I wanted for my birthday,
I was looking at the Howarths site at the time,
I was given a £100 Budget,
I ordered a Dukoff H7,
I hope the Cannonball likes it.........
I am such a girl, it matches my Tenor, It has a fairly good rep, It's my first metal mouthpiece...oh..err, it comes tomorrow!

OK - what do you suggest? Rovner/Optimum?

Standard Rovners do the job fine (If you're feeling flash- Francois Louis' or Eddie Daniels ligs do make a bit of difference to response in very high or low registers... IMO)

Thanks for the tip, gonna have it delivered to work so OH doesn't realise it's any different to the Rovner that's sat at home on the Yamaha!

I think quite a few people on the SoTW Cannonball forum have Dukoffs - along with Jody Jazz, they seem the weapon of choice. I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Ooh Aly, I know that feeling! It's really difficult to explain just why you need a different mouthpiece/ligature etc etc etc.....isn't it?
My OH can spot them coming a mile off! Wish I could get things sent to work but the place is so big and my little bit is so small, I'm afraid any post might get lost.....

I can't comment on the Dukoff, but the Eddie Daniels is great. I use mine without either of the metal inserts but it was fun playing around with it. Its very responsive and I think I've noticed that reeds last longer with it (that could also be down to the fact that I'm less of a beginner than I was so I may be a little more gentle than I used to be......scientific.....NOT )

(Congrats on the weight loss, I've lost 2 stone myself, but thats nothing compared to you.....I could write a song about that...Well done)

PS, I played down your way last Sat, at the Four Pillars hotel, wow what a place and a nice part of the world too!

Dukoffs mpc's are great. I'm still playing Dukoffs on soprano, alto and bari. I played Dukoffs tenor mpc's for a long time. I played LD 10 (lagre chamber), D 8 & 9 and, before I switched to Rovner, X-8. The Rovner STD or BG std didn't work for me. I wanted more volume and a louder sound so I prefered a BG "FL" lig or simular. The low and middle tones was ok but the high tones didn't came out so well. The H chamber is a mpc with large-round chamber and no baffle.

OMG it's lovely but my OH is horrible, I was allowed a 5 minute "Test" and then it had to go away until my Birthday in October (we'll see about that!). You're right about the nasty bit of tin that came with it claiming to be a ligature, I had trouble opening it wide enough to accomodate a Reed. I tried it with a softer reed first but then switched back to the RR2 that I've been using on the Stock CB Mouthpiece recently - it's soooo easy to play, even in the pathetically small time I had my hands on it, it is so much easier for me to play this smaller Metal piece than the fatter Ebonite/Plastic ones I have played up to now.
Very relieved that what was basically a guess worked out so well and the chap at Howarths was a really helpful person to deal with - All good! :welldone

OK the "what that one? - I've had it for ages you never notice anything" ligature has arrived on my desk. What's all this plate stuff about then? the pamphlet says there's a possible 6 different tones but doesn't describe them at all!

Just play around with them. At first I couldn't hear any difference and I was a little disappointed, after a while you can hear and feel a slight change between the choices. I think that some are too similar for me to hear them yet, but I've opted for the no insert option.
