Saxophones Jupiter 500 series - Tenor

I just bought a second-hand jupiter 500 series tenor from ebay for £150.

I was told it is a jupiter but the name "jupiter" doesn't appear on the sax. There is a "500 Series" carved on the bell. Is this a genuine jupiter?

It comes with a Jupiter 4C mouthpiece (made in germany). Never heard of Jupiter mouthpiece before and more surprisingly it is made in germany. The jupiter 4C is surprisingly much better than my yamaha 4C. The lows are quite easy to reach with jupiter 4C.

The sax is very loud and the sound is full even at high F#. Infact the high D to F are comparatively louder than the few notes below.

From what I know, Jupiter 500-models are made in China (PRC). The other Jupiter models are made in Taiwan (ROC). It can be a sax that is simular to the Jupiter and made at the same plant.

My friend is going to buy a Mariat tenor. He iuse to travel to Tawian and China quite often in business (not musical). He says he can legaly buy a "Mariat" without engraving on Tawain for half of the price comparing to the price of a new Mariat in a shop here in Sweden!! Intresting to see what he brings back.

This may have been the case with some mauriat models a while back, but unlikely now. There are plenty of saxophones in Taiwan that look like P.Mauriats and may share some of the same (or similar looking) parts.

I had a Jupiter 500. It had "Jupiter" and "500 series" engraved on the bell. It sounded good, but I found the ergonomics and action a bit clunky, so traded up. For the price you paid, though, I think you've got a bargain.
