Saxophones John Packer 042v student horn

Adam Bradley, a man who visits woodwind shops!

Psh!

I do indeed, sortof. I went to JP's last weekend and tried the model up - the .045 alto. I really liked it, it was solid with a nice feel to it, some character 🙂 I liked the sound it produced and found it really easy to play. My only gripe was it being badly flat above top C, but I'm pretty sure that'd just be that particular sax, there's no way they'd be selling it so well if it couldn't play above top C 😛

There's a video of the .045 on this site (Saxophones - New alto sax & mouthpiece demo), and the testimonials on JP's site are all from high calibre players. I'm pretty sure that's not just hype too, as I know a guy who plays on the West End who has been amazed to see his colleagues playing these instruments. I don't know about the .042 but my gut feeling would be to look at the the .045 if you can, since it's getting so many ridiculously good reviews.

Apologies to Adam!

I think that JP are rapidly becoming the new Bauhaus Walstein and seem to produce stuff which is just that much cheaper, but very good quality.

I purchased a JP231/Rath trombone (£350) which is top notch, and is very highly thought of - glorious sound and professional quality.

So well worth a look, and hope the test goes well on Monday!
Kind regards
Tom😎

Thats the clip l made using the JP045 ex-demo horn straight out the box.
After having it for a month or so now the only niggles im having with it are with the crappy zips on the case (which tbh seems the same across the board for all these chinese horns) and a sticky G# pad which is doing my head in! I will get round to sorting it, but other than that the horn has settled into its own sound l find very much diffrent from my Selmer - quite a bright sound. Im taking aboard in april and im sure it will do fine playing night after night, but l still dont think lt will last the wear and tear over the years - just doesnt feel as solid as the Selmer (but then again there is about £2k worth price diffrence in them).

My 045 altos tuning above the high C is spot on, l think it might just have been the horn you tried. The tech's there might even be able to sort that out.

The JP-042 tenor l will get a shot of on monday belongs to a kid in the local councils schools big band l teach at. Quite looking forward to seeing how it compairs to the JP-045.

Good hunting!

I have the JP 142 Blues tenor and its great, really powerful and easy to blow. I also have the 042 alto which is good, but I am looking to upgrade to their top alto when the budget allows. I also have their bari which is a good horn too. The service from JP is excellent too.

Just wondered if anyone had any opinions regarding the JP 041 vs the 045 alto. Renting the 41 at the mo and thought it might be worth spending a little extra when it comes to buying.

Probably listening with my wallet rather than my ears...

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
