Jazz Saxophone Workshop - with Mike Hall - Head of Jazz (RNCM) - Dorset

JazzSmart has some exciting news, the first of its 2015 workshops has been announced!

On April 18th and 19th we are delighted to have Mike Hall, head of Jazz Studies and saxophone tutor at one of the UK’s leading conservatoires, the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), for a two day workshop on improvisation. Mike will be bringing with him his tried and tested programme on learning how to improvise effectively.

Mike Hall is a jazz saxophonist and educator based in Manchester, UK. He began his musical career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which led to work with the late composer/pianist Michael Garrick with whom he toured Malaysia and made several CD recordings and Radio 3 broadcasts.

Mike plays with the Echoes of Ellington Orchestra (including a recent week at Ronnie Scott’s Club), with Andy Scott’s Sax Assault and with his own jazz quartet. He regularly freelances with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Halle Orchestras with guest conductors such as John Wilson. Other personal projects include his double quartet (string quartet plus jazz quartet) Quadratus.

Backed up with a professional rhythm section everyone is sure to have fun!

Set at the perfect venue, the Coda School of Music, the price for this two day workshop is only £120, including lunch and refreshments.

Entry requirements flexible, but as a general rule knowing your scales in up to 4 sharps and flats is recommended. No other necessary experience needed, just a willingness to get up and have fun is the key!

We also have some new elements to the workshop including being able to try/buy saxophone merchandise and have your saxes checked over and repaired!
