At a dance in the gym one summer evening I slipped a 78 of Jazz at the Philharmonic into the stack of records. It was Perdido and was not appreciated by the staff of adults. They didn't understand Illinois Jacquet or Flip Phillips, but we did. When they tried to stop the record from playing there was such an uproar that a gigantic change was made. From that time on the kids were in charge of selecting and playing the music. Jitterbug still ruled in 1953. I still have the 78.
