In the mood again

Evening all

I have dusted off my alto after a hiatus of...ooh...about 20 odd years.

I can remember the fingering and (just about) how to get a clean note out. I have clearly forgotten how damn loud the thing is - which I think is why I never practiced the last time.

I am also learning to read music, which is about time. Old dog, new tricks and all that.

Finally I'm also considering the clarinet and came here looking for practical advice on playing both, hopefully I'll get some tips, and possibly a secondhand instrument.

Hi Giles. Big welcome from me. Have fun with the alto. Volume's controllable, just takes a bit of practice... Maybe consider practising in some sound cancelling headphones at first - helped me a lot, but the family sufferede just as much. .
