I added a front F to kohlert ??

I got the noname no serial horn ( looks a lot like Modell 26 Kohlert tenor with microtuner neck , Conn style mercedes low c guard, Split bell keys) about a couple of months ago and it had no front F although it looked like it may have had in the past. So last week I decided I`d retrofit my own front F

I`ll probably settle for polishing and clear lacquering it. The horn is Nickel plated. The main thing is that it`s working perfect and the altissimo is speaking easier than my other 2 tenors LOL.

One thing I`d like to ask any of the Technicians reading is why did the front F mechanism become so overdone. ie two piece rather than the simple fix that i`ve utilised? which is so much less hassle and easier to use too.

Nice work. What did you make it out of? Did you have to silver solder the parts together? At the top of the upper stack there are a lot of other keys in the way. I like how you bent it to work around the obstructions. My guess as to why the front F became two keys is that they were trying to make it adjustable with the moving barrel. The problem with that is they don't allow much adjustment at all.

Thanks. I got the stock brass on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Flat-bras...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item25a1dc333b.
6mmx3 mm bar and 4mmx3mm tube cost me £8 shipped for 2 x 1 foot lengths.
I soft soldered the joints which were all engineered to an interference fit by file. The bending and twisting was done by starting at the top and annealing the bar as I went using small bench vice and pliers . believe it or not I got it perfect 1st time. I added corks in usual places. the touch piece is soldered with soft solder and is going to get a MOP crown when my beach-combing pays off. I found a nice black piece but prefer white. I live less than 100 metres from the beach LOL.

🙂 Hi John, I have been so incredibly busy trying to get my workshops fitted out, this repairing malarkey is a horrendously expensive career! Near finishing my custom polishing unit, had to do most of it myself and with the help of my friend Youtube!

I have had such a time in this business and I am going on the woodwind course next, brass next year, and a few others. I have seen so many on here that do better diy jobs than some repairers I have had the misfortune to come across, so I have decided that I cannot beat them, but I can join and do my best to become better! (well hopefully anyhow)

I have lost of exciting plans coming up for the future so when it is the time, I shall be on an awful lot more, in the meantime, I am still having some repairs done by the good techs I know 🙂
