With the alto I ended up with 3

  • Ottolink Tone Edge 6 ebonite (my main one)
  • Meyer 5M ebonite (never really used this as it was too closed for me)
  • Yani metal 6 (didn't really get on with it that well)

Now on tenor, after a much more exhaustive trial/search I have settled on just one, Jody Jazz DV NY 7* metal.

Reed wise I have tried many but now only use Marca Jazz 3 reeds. I am very pleased with my tone, especially lower register and the higher register is getting better and better only 4 months into playing tenor. Guess my embouchure/control is improving.

So do you all use more than one mp, different reeds etc. Am I a weirdo sticking to just one. :w00t:

I've not even started my search for a sop mp yet - maybe over Easter when I have some time off.

I had a go with otto link super tone master last night and it sounded fantastic.

I haven't been able to play it up until now but I thought I would give it a go an wow I love it.

So I have a yamaha plastic MPC and an otto link STM

I would like to try an otto ebonite mpc at some point or a Ponzol Vintage

The 'Link I have has a nice edge and projection. One of these day's I'm gonna get around to selling it - if you are interested let me know by PM. I also have a Rovner Eddie Daniels ligature which is nice.

How many mouthpieces

I must be odd - I've only got one for each horn.
Feeling a bit dissatisfied with the pieces I got with them, I trundled down to sax.co.uk and they let me loose with a handful, after asking what sort of sound I was after.
Settled for a Lawton 7 for the tenor and a Yanni 7 for the sop. Both metal.

A friend of mine has a box full of the things - but he still plays the same one every week :)

Mouthpieces

For most of my saxes I have just one mouthpiece that I use regularly, plus a spare. However, for tenor it has been different. At one time I had over twenty. I've thinned that down dramatically now, and although I still have three or four, I only really play one. Since buying an RPC 115B I haven't really been tempted to look for another - it just does what I want.

They're like shoes and handbag - you can never have too many :)

Currently running at 11; 7 tenor, 2 soprano and 2 alto (I don't even own an alto!)

The tenor accumulation came about because of eBay immune deficiency. I was buying 1 a month - but I've had counselling and electro-shock therapy and I'm starting to pull out of it now. Next stage is to start off-loading the unused ones (so that would be about 9 of them then.......:) )

I know the 'fever' only too well though not with mps but with film cameras.

I have acquired via eBay (and subsequently sold):

  • Olympus OM2n, OM 2SP, OM3 and OM 4Ti - with loads of lenses.
  • Nikon F2A, F3 - not so many lenses this time
  • Leica M6 with 50mm lens

It looks worse seeing them all in print!

I'm better now though! Nearly bought a Nikon F2As last week but after a bump on the head (from erindoors) (she) I decided against it. :verysad

I do still have 3 alto mps which I don't use and two altos which I am trying to sell via a shop. Oh and an old Linn pre/power amp set up.

I have banned myself from looking at 80s skateboards for the same reason

Im drooling over a Nikon F2 Photomic arrrrrghhhhh! They don't make um like that any more. A friend of mine picked up an OM4ti spot for £50! off ebay!!

Criminal, but I know what it is, when I was a student hankering for one of the above, I couldn't afford them, now they're two a penny I just keep buying them to handle. I picked up a great Mamiya M645J + 80mm for £15! yeeha!

All of them were nr mint of mint - the OM4Ti and Leica M6 had never been used, the OM still had the bit of plastic inside the film back and both still had the base plastic attached.

I had to sell them as I bought a Nikon D2x new and to help fund my first sax. I had wanted an OM4Ti and a Nikon F2 since the late 70's early 80's.

My wife was also getting frustrated about the amount of kit I had. I miss them all though.
