Classical Home of the Sopranos

This thread is for all our Italian American members. ie wise guys. ;} Well more of a private joke between us. The bar in NYC. Was a filming location for the Sopranos. Hence I played the Soprano Aria Casta Diva on the Clarinet. You may not be aware but we have our own Godfather on this forum. So Respect please.>:)

There's an old Italian saying, "You **** up once, you lose two teeth"

Tony Soprano

Someone I knew had his bakery blown up. He never found the thing cool.
Am I entitled to comment?

Wasn't on Pudding Lane was it?

Yes the great fire of London, 1666 always remember the date, as it was after the plague, of 1665.
As far as the wise Guy ref. we are talking Drama not real life. I believe the Sopranos helped drag a struggling production co. HBO. out of the red and now one of the big players in the US. And they continue to produce great Dramas.

Drama glamorizing organized crime. The fact it made money, saddens me even more.

Thats human nature I guess. Personally I would prefer to watch James Gandolfini, than Downton Abbey.

Ps. I think the public are not so shocked when a criminal kills another criminal, live by the sword, die by the sword. They are more outraged when some knobhead swings his dog around with it's leash, and at the same time kicking it.

I am so sorry if I've offended you as I would not do so intentionally. I don't want to give the impression of believing that organised crime is something to either celebrate or glamourise.

I do, however, agree with Jim that when things are dramatised in a soap or a movie it is in (some of) our natures to be intrigued. The same could be said for films dramatising war and other suffering. They appeal to some and not others. I occasionally watch something if I like the actors, regardless of the topic and can forget that the story impacts people's real lives.

Again, apologies for any offence.

Thank you Sue, I don't feel personally offended.
I am probably oversensitive on the subject, butI just feel that I have the moral duty, in a thread like this, to point out that organized crime is not cool.

Movies and TV dramas give role models to gangs, Russian arm dealers, normal people that implicitly accept that situation.
In the meantime in Italy you often need a godfather to find a job, get planning permission or get a loan.
Walking in a pizzeria thinking it can be a money laundering machine saddens me, since I love pizza.

Just the urge of stating a point...

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
