Difficult to tell as the pics are very blurred, poorly lit and framed. However, the first one looks as if it says USA below the Selmer logo. Not likely to be anything to get too excited about. Most Selmer USA saxes were pretty unexceptional instruments. The current range are all made in China, and OK student instruments but nothing more than that. This one looks older.

Yes, Selmer USA is actually a completely different company to the original Selmer company. They were/are the distributors of Selmer (Paris) in the USA, but do not manufacture the same models that has made Selmer Paris horns among the most overpriced (and collectable if good vintage)

It's a selmer USA model 162, professional alto: these were made in elkhart and were produced in parallel with the selmer Paris series I . They are excellent saxes, incidentally the Bach / Selmer catalogue for the UK had these listed at £100 more than the selmer Paris . Some had extensive engraving over the back of the body.

I own the model immediately prior (the Omega) and the one just after (the AS110).
These are not common in Europe where selmer Paris had pretty much the monopoly for pro saxes, but they are quite sought after in the us as they are excellent but go for roughly 1/3 of a modern Paris horn.
Hope this helps,
M.

Forgot to mention that the model 162 (and 164 tenor) were produced in the 1980s and the 162 was the more cosmetically refined of the three US produced models (omega, 162 and as110). In good condition, sells in the us around $1000 to $1400, depending on condition.

I personally don't care if it's worth a lot of money as I got it for an extremely good price.I am familiar with pads/felts/corks etc on woodwinds as I played clarinet. It's worth the amount needed to refurbish it in my eyes. The pictures were small thumbnails as I was saving data usage by not uploading a bigger picture. Thank all who commented,as I do know more than I did.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
