Hello,
another newbie to the site from Milton Keynes, an exile from Guisborough in the North East.

I have been learning to play the alto sax for about a year now.

I have found a place in Woburn that holds a jam session once a month and another place in Oving nr Aylesbury also once a month.

I am interested in other places that I can play in the general area.

Welcome David, from South of London, Croydon way.

I've been learning alto for just over a year too. A late returner. Great, isn't it? Don't think I'd chance my arm in public yet though.

Enjoy all the good advice and humour on here.

Hi David, welcome to the BR from just up the road, If you fancy a bit of a trip, there are a couple of jams that I frequent in the Rugby area, its a bit of a trek I know but you never know.
Enjoy the site anyway.

Milton Keynes. Wasn't that the name of Hank Wangford's drummer?
Welcome David from another part of the CaSLM.
Enjoy.

I did my first public performance just before Christmas in Bletchley Library. It was a few Carols and I soloed "Bei Mir Bist Du Shein". As I sat outside the libbary before going in I wondeed what the heck I was doing there. Once I was playing though it was great.

That sounds interesting. Although I am comfortable with a few numbers I am not yet able to just improvise wothout lots of practise. I would still like to come along for the experience though.

Welcome from a few junctions further South on the M1. Been learning half as long as you and loving the experience.

David
CaSLM is the Croydon and South London Massive, that inhabits this forum, with the acquiescence of that nice Mr Thomas. It is a shady organisation of would be sax players headed by the patriarch - some would say grandfather - (Taz, your card is marked!) Old Git. I am his official Zimmer retainer and Smiffy is getaway rider. Pauline, no longer a Londoner, is official moll and Griff, the great sax mechanic, South Western Ambassador. OG would have told you this himself but he's probably gone back to bed for a rest. Be careful though, he is somewhat Toad of Toad Hall-like: lives in a penthouse pad, challenges people to duels, throws things at trains and was recently reported to possibly have been under the influence of something at a British Legion concert.

Having got all that out of the way, yes I could probably have done something like a carol concert, so well done to you, but pub gigging is a bit distant for me yet.

A little more regarding CaSLM. Our Patron is Mr. Peter Thomas and our Vice-President is H.M. Brenda.

BTW og is lower case and glad that you knew about that great gynaecologist, Dr. Sam Hutt's alter ego.

post script:-Young Col drank Cors Lite and enjoyed it!

You left Guisborough for the delights of Roundabout City? Welcome to the fringes of the DM (Daventry Massive, although it could also refer to the Doc Marten boots that we cool Northants dudes wear;}). I've heard about the Woburn jam session - I think "Half-Diminished" who hails from Bletchley has tried it.

Guisborough, yes, we left there about 26 year ago but not for MK. MK is just where we ended up 10 years ago - a much maligned place - I love it!

Half-Diminished - we have already corresponded, perhaps we should initiate the Milton Keynes and District Massive (MKaDM)!

Consider it done! Fancy becoming Grand Lodge Master? I'll be Chief Whipping Boy.

Welcome Dave from south south south south south London (straight down the M3/M27 to another world of sunshine, greenery, and blue seas).

Well , you do as you want up there of course, but you don't want to come to Croydon. That's not aggressive, I mean you really don't want to come to Croydon! Apart from a few Department and specialist shops and the very good Johnny Myall's "Just Flutes" where Griff toils all night repairing broken saxes for a pittance, it's grim.

Was that really Cors Lite, Bill? Thought it was awful but was too polite to say anything as you were buying. Certainly wouldn't soak my reeds in it.

BTW MK was where the town planners were so uninspired that they ran out of road names and called the North/South roads V(ertical) and the East/West ones H(orizontal) plus a number. But thanks for taking the football team when they lost Plough Lane!

Oh dear, I have only been here a couplr of days and I seem to be starting a war - MKaDM v Some Soppy South Massive ;-)

I think you owe me a pint when we meet.

Grand Master Elect - MKaDM

Well that's a good compromise. Always up for a pint somewhere. Neutral territory of course! But just be wary of calling us soppy - look what "they" did to Smiffy and its rumoured he played for three hours like that.

Sorry.

What did they do to "smiffy" by the way.

David
Look at Breakfast Room, "I've had a bit of an accident..." by Smiffy. He doesn't usually look like that.
