I must admit that I have never actually seen a real hedgehog. The stuffed toys my dog loves to play with are the closest I have come. Unfortunately they are not native to North or South America. They certainly are cute animals. The name "snufflers" seems to fit.

Fascinating, @Pete Thomas! I'd always imagined hedgehogs to be slow, timorous, ponderous and solitary creatures. Though the laws of nature mean they must procreate somehow and sometimes. It's wonderful to see how sociable they are!

It's the start of the mating procedure, the male circling the female, he might have to do it for several nights before she decides if he's suitable. Ususally it's the female making the snuffling noises.
