Reeds Have I bought the right reeds??

OK, so apparently there are no stupid questions, and with that in mind...

I went to my local music shop today and asked for some size 2 Rico reeds for my alto, having had 1.5s since I started playing one month ago. However, these reeds look considerably smaller than my 1.5s - the bottom screw of my ligature doesn't even completely cover the end, although it is held in place OK. I'm wondering if they sold me clarinet reeds by mistake (they mainly sell guitars) but in my ignorance, thought I'd check here before taking them back.

I have used one this afternoon and it did play, so maybe they're usually a lot smaller??

Thanks for humouring me!

That's definitely a different reed. All alto reeds should be about the same size. The difference is the hardness or strength. Take them back haha and just ask for some alto sax ones.

Thanks, I thought as much! Managed to use one for an hour, not sure if that's a good thing or not . Hope I get my money back...

Your welcome :)
If that guitar shop continues to have terrible service then try askig around here for a new shop to go check out or order your gear online like I do. Ahh the wonders of modern saxophone :)

So true! Although to be fair to the guitar shop, they have only just started supplying different things (which is handy for me as it's not too far to go) plus they were a bit distracted by a leak in the roof during the sale today!

If you can't get the reeds you want when you need them, do what did and get them on line from "Reeds Direct" or "Just Flutes"

Great service and no more hassle.

Jim.

Oh no! I play guitar as well as sax,
I hope the shop didn't get any inventory damaged. And hopefully you can find a good place to get lessons or at least a sax tech nearby. Best of luck to you!

No stock damaged, just the carpet I think! I've got my lessons sorted but my sax teacher's disappeared around the world til mid Jan, hence the need to post everything and anything here! So thanks for replying :)
