Saxophones Have an alto and soprano, now looking to get my first tenor sax

Hi I'm new to the form. I've been playing alto and soprano for about 9 years now and was think of getting my first tenor. I have a Selmer super action 80 series II alto and a series III soprano. But I don't have the money for a equivalent tenor at the moment and am not set on Selmer. I would be looking for something I could play and learn without being impaired by odd intonation issues and so forth. I would think it to be reasonable if I could get a horn around a grand. I also don't mind getting a used horn. If you have good experience with any horns (brands/models) that might fit what I'm looking for I would appreciate your input.

I'd encourage you to try a Buffet Crampon T400 which is virtually exactly £1000. I play the A400 alto version and it competes well with my Selmer Ref54. Sax staff at Howarth of London rate it above the Yanagisawa T901 which is more than twice the price. Good sound, which is more like a Selmer than a Yamaha/Yanagisawa equivalent. Others are likely to recommend a used Yamaha YTS 62 or similar, but the Buffet Crampon is well worth trying if £1000 is what you want to spend.

Kind regards
Tom

Just noticed this quote from a Sax on the Web thread, about the T400 "

Default Series 400 Tenor

I was so impressed with this horn, I finally bought one. Have been kicking tires for over a year. Compared this horn with several Selmers, including the Serie III and Reference 54, and couldn't believe the sound. The horn is solid, and really is well made. Tonal quality is excellent. Its obvious that Buffet is really making a statement with this horn.

If you're looking for a horn that will serve you well, and aren't one to let names determine what really matters this is an awesome instrument. I'm very happy with quality, sound, and look. Nice work Buffet! " Sounds good to me.

One of the forum members - Dooce - has a Canonball tenor for sale. They are rated very highly. Might be worth talking with him.

I have also been interested in trying a cannonball sax. I figured a Yamaha in that rang would be suggested.
Sorry I accidentally sent that last message before I finished

Well........if you want to find a Canonball dealer and pricing don't ask me!!!!!! Look at the recent Canonball thread, it is all there!

Have a look at Gear4music. I have sop alto and tenor. Their bog standard tenor goes about £250 and plays fine.

Since there are virtually infinite possibilities, what are you budget and your location?

I'm from the states living on the west coast (ca/wa). Looks like most of the people on this form are from somewhere in Europe? My budget is 800-1200 dollars. If I end up using the tenor as much as my other saxophones I will invest in a higher end model. I may not have the money for a couple weeks. But I've been looking at all the suggestion and learning what I can. It also looks like it may be hard to find some of them in the states than others. I also have old YS-23 alto saxophone I could sell to expand my budget if its worth selling.

Here is a real goodie - the Kessler saxes: http://www.kesslermusic.com/html/sax/tenor.html

Great call from Tom. Otherwise get a Jupiter sax. Should source one for your budget

Great those cover the range of my budget. I'll look at the Jupiter as well.

I remember some ebay dealer in Seattle with good stuff.
There are many Taiwanese made horns in the States that don't reach Europe and that can be great horns.

Or there is that 10m sitting somewhere....
