Gregory porter

Hi all,saw Gregory Porter at Birmingham Town Hall last night 18 March, actualy saw him walking round birmingham city,so went and said hello....what a realy nice guy.The concert itself and his voice was excellent, but his sax player on alto Yosuke Sato was tremendous.Best twenty pounds spent for a long time.Bumnote.

I was standing right beside them at a filming of Later last year. Absolutely sold me on the guy's (and band's) talent. Did you clock the piano player? They are all great musos but he was absolutely driving that band. Not entirely sure that Chris Evan's endorsement is a great measure, but he is now getting regular Radio 2 exposure - good to see some serious talent getting in there amongst the Gary Barlows.........

I expect all you Gregory Porter fans have seen his latest album to be released 27 October - Nat King Cole & Me. The only pre release so far is Smile which is sublime. It's on pre order and I can't wait to hear the rest of it. He's touring UK again in April, starts in Birmingham and then Liverpool @trimmy .

Ties in nicely with the SOTM @Chris 🙂

then Liverpool
I had the chance of pre-order when i went online to buy tickets, they were charging £52 + £4 fee + any other charges, nope that ain't happening 😡

I've listened to Smile and yes it's sublime, I'll get the cd but won't be going to see him unless he drops his prices

He and his band are first class you Will thoroughly enjoy the gig, I'd be going but i begrudge paying that price.
Check out Chip Crawford (keys) Tivon Pennicot (tenor)

Yes, I'm with you on the price front. I don't get to biggish venue gigs very often, I've only been to about half a dozen in the last half dozen Years and this is by far the cheapest!! - which is probably why I've only been to half a dozen gigs in the last half a dozen Years 🙂

I don't mind paying to see him and his band as they're such great performers. @dooce the piano player, Chip Crawford, is I'm told (by my hubby so I have to believe him) the arranger and MD.

I do resent paying ticket fees though. It wouldn't be so bad if it was one fee per transaction rather than per ticket.

I don't mind paying but what I'm against is the ticket price starts going up as they become more 'known' !
First ticket i bought was £18, second was £32, this would be the third at £52 !
Has he and his band become three times as good ? Debatable
It's the greed thing i suspect

Is any of it related to the venue?

There may be an element of that, although it's my understanding that the promoter sets the ticket price. I think £52 is reasonable especially as my friend paid £100 to see Adele.
Personally I wouldn't want to see her if she was playing free in my back garden. Just my opinion 🙂

Tivon Pennicot is an amazing saxophonist and what a sound, I much prefer him to the alto player he had previously in the band, who was incredibly technical (saw him live at Love Supreme a couple of years ago) but left me a bit cold.
Enjoy the gig all you lucky people!
